There is one address, it is read by a person, and it is hello@outerhebridesproperty.co.uk. Corrections, a listing that is wrong or showing when it should not be, an agent we have missed, a photograph or an address you want taken down, or anything else about the site itself.

What this site is

Outer Hebrides Property is an index of what the islands' estate agents and solicitors publish. It reads their own websites through the day, gathers every property they are advertising into one searchable list, and keeps the price history and the days on the market that none of them publishes. Every listing names the agent advertising it and links back to them, because they are the authority on it and we are not.

What it is not

It is not an estate agent and it is not a party to any sale. Nothing is sold, let or valued here. No viewing is arranged here, no offer is passed on, and no commission is taken from anybody — not from an agent, not from a buyer, not from a seller. If you want to see a house, ask a question about it, or make an offer on it, the agent named on its page is who to contact, and their own link is on that page. Writing to us about a property does not reach the agent and does not reserve anything.

A listing that is wrong

Tell us which one — the address, or the link to its page here — and what is wrong with it. The commonest three are a property that has sold or been withdrawn and is still showing, a price that has moved since we last read the agent's page, and an address filed under the wrong village. All three are fixed by hand the day they are reported, and the site rereads every agent through the day besides, so most corrections land on their own within hours. Every listing page also carries its own "spotted a mistake" link, which writes to the same address with the listing already named.

Taking something down

If you are an agent and would rather we did not show your photographs, or you are a seller who wants your address off the site, say so at that address and it is done the same day — no argument and no form to fill in. The full photograph policy, and what is shown and credited, is on the about page. What happens to your email address if you write to us, or if you sign up for alerts, is on the privacy and cookies page.

Who runs it

One person, from Stornoway, independently of every agent whose listings appear on it. There is no company behind it, no investor, and no arrangement with any agent, portal or lender. It is free to read and is paid for by advertising — Google's advertising code is on every page, and what it does to your browser, and what you are asked before it does it, are set out on the privacy and cookies page. Nothing about which properties are shown here, or in what order, is for sale to anybody.

How long a reply takes

Email is the only route, on purpose: it is the one that can be read and answered properly rather than half-answered quickly. A removal or a plainly wrong listing is dealt with the day it arrives. Anything else usually takes a day or two, and there is no queue number and nothing to chase.

Be first to know

Name a street or a village, or several, and you get an email the day something comes up on one of them. Add a price, or ask for rentals and crofts.

One email goes out to check the address is yours, and nothing else follows until you click the link in it. We keep your email address and what you asked to watch, and nothing besides; every email carries an unsubscribe link. One list per address, so signing up again replaces what you asked for last time rather than adding a second alert. Privacy and cookies.

The signup form needs JavaScript. Email hello@outerhebridesproperty.co.uk with the street, area or price you want to hear about, and whether you mean for sale or to rent, and we will add you by hand.

Fast, free, and no pop-ups.
