About Balallan
Balallan lies at the head of Loch Erisort on the main road from Stornoway to Tarbert. The Gazetteer for Scotland calls it a straggling crofting township.
It is in the crofting parish of Lochs, and among that parish's townships only Leurbost has more crofts in the Crofting Commission's open data: Balallan has 73. With that many crofts, the first thing to establish with any advert is whether it offers a tenancy, an owner occupied croft, or a site that has been decrofted and carries its own title.
The council's directory puts Balallan in the catchment of Sgoil nan Loch, the primary at Leurbost, and secondary pupils go to the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway. NHS Western Isles lists a GP practice, Langabhat Medical Practice, at Leurbost too. The W10 bus between Stornoway and Tarbert stops in the village, so the one service links Balallan both to town and south into Harris.
