About Cromwell Street
Cromwell Street runs north from Perceval Square in Stornoway's town centre, and OpenStreetMap maps it as a main road. Much of it is protected. Historic Environment Scotland lists seven designations that name the street. Among them are the Town House at 16 and 18, a tall three storey and attic corner building listed at category B; Cromwell's Building on the corner of Francis Street, also category B, which the listing describes as late 18th or early 19th century in appearance; and the Municipal Buildings where South Beach, Cromwell Street and Point Street meet.
For a buyer that matters. Historic Environment Scotland says listed building consent is sometimes required for changes to a listed building, and that the local authority's planning department is the body to ask, which here is Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. It is worth checking whether a building is listed before planning any alteration.
The council lists Stornoway in the catchment of Stornoway Primary on Jamieson Drive, and the Nicolson Institute is the secondary for the whole of Lewis. NHS Western Isles lists two GP practices in the town. The ferry sails from Stornoway to Ullapool.
