About Garrabost
Garrabost is a crofting township on the Eye Peninsula, which adverts call Point, about 6 miles east of Stornoway and 1¼ miles north east of Knock. Its Gaelic name, on Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba's map, is the same word. Historic Environment Scotland lists Knock Church of Scotland, which stands at Garrabost, at category B.
Sgoil an Rubha, the one primary school on the peninsula, is at New Garrabost; it offers Gaelic medium classes, and its catchment runs from Aignish and Knock out to Aird and Portvoller. Secondary pupils go to the Nicolson Institute. The W5 bus from Stornoway to Upper Bayble and Flesherin passes Stornoway Airport and Knock and then stops at Upper Garrabost and at Garrabost post office.
The Crofting Commission's open data lists 62 crofts at Garrabost and another 24 at New Garrabost, both filed under the parish of Stornoway. Community Land Scotland describes the Stornoway Trust's estate as including that parish.
