About Gravir
Gravir (Grabhair) is an extended crofting settlement round the head of Loch Ouirn in the Park district of east Lewis, which adverts call South Lochs. The Gazetteer for Scotland puts it 11 miles south of Stornoway; by bus it is reached from the South Lochs turn off the Stornoway to Tarbert road.
Pairc School, the primary for the whole district, is in Gravir, and the council lists every township from Habost and Kershader round to Lemreway and Orinsay in its catchment. Historic Environment Scotland lists the former school and schoolhouse at category B and the church at category C. Secondary pupils go to the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway, and the W9 bus stops at Gravir between Calbost and Lemreway.
Gravir is one of the 11 townships of the Pairc Estate, owned by the community's Pairc Trust since December 2015. The Crofting Commission's open data lists 45 crofts at Gravir, in the parish of Lochs.
