About Habost

Two townships on Lewis are called Habost, and adverts for each end up on this page. One is in Ness at the northern tip of the island, where postcodes begin HS2 0; the other is in South Lochs, on the south shore of Loch Erisort, where they begin HS2 9.

Habost in Ness (Tàbost) sits between Lionel and Swainbost, and the Gazetteer for Scotland notes the Ness Heritage Centre and Taigh Dhonnchaidh, the Gaelic arts and music centre, here. It is one of the Galson Estate's 22 community owned townships, the Crofting Commission lists 50 crofts under it, and its primary is Lionel School. The W1 Ness bus stops at the heritage centre.

Habost in South Lochs lies about a mile west of Kershader and, by the Gazetteer's measure, 11 miles south west of Stornoway. It is one of the 11 townships of the Pairc Estate, which the community's Pairc Trust took over in December 2015, and the Commission lists 14 crofts there. Pairc School at Gravir is its primary, and the W9 South Lochs bus stops at Habost first after leaving the main road. Both Habosts send secondary pupils to the Nicolson Institute.
