About Leurbost
Leurbost is a village in the Lochs district of Lewis, about 6 miles south west of Stornoway near the head of Loch Leurbost. It serves much of North Lochs: Sgoil nan Loch, the primary for Achmore, Crossbost, Ranish, Grimshader, Balallan, Laxay, Keose and more, with Gaelic medium classes as well as English, is here, and NHS Western Isles lists Langabhat Medical Practice at Leurbost too. Historic Environment Scotland lists the church at category C.
It is also the largest crofting township in the parish of Lochs, with 80 crofts in the Crofting Commission's open data. Any advert for a croft, a plot or a house site is worth reading closely for whether the land is tenanted, owned, or has been decrofted.
The W8 bus from Stornoway to Ranish stops at the Leurbost community centre, and the W8A feeder links Grimshader with the school and the surgery. For secondary school it is the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway.
