About Lochboisdale
Lochboisdale (Loch Baghasdail) is the ferry port and chief settlement of South Uist, at the head of a sheltered bay at the south east end of the island, and the Gazetteer for Scotland calls it the only village on that coast. It notes that a new fishing and leisure harbour opened to the south east of the village in 2015. CalMac's route from Mallaig and Oban comes in here.
The land is part of the South Uist Estate, which Stòras Uibhist, the community company that manages it, says was bought out by the community in 2006 and covers 93,000 acres across Eriskay, South Uist and parts of Benbecula, with over 95 per cent of it under crofting tenure. The Crofting Commission's open data lists 60 crofts at North Lochboisdale and 19 at South Lochboisdale.
Lochboisdale is in the catchment of Daliburgh School, and secondary pupils go to Sgoil Lionacleit on Benbecula. NHS Western Isles lists the South Uist Medical Practice at Daliburgh. The W17 bus between Balivanich and Eriskay runs in to Lochboisdale pier.
