About North Shawbost
North Shawbost forms the north eastern part of Shawbost (Siabost) on the west coast of Lewis. The Gazetteer for Scotland describes it as laid out along two parallel roads half a mile apart: the western one overlooks Loch Shawbost and the eastern ends at Fevig.
Historic Environment Scotland lists the Free Church here at category C and a clapper bridge at category B. The Crofting Commission's open data lists 58 crofts at North Shawbost, in the parish of Barvas, which is more than either South Shawbost or New Shawbost.
Shawbost School is the primary for this part of the Westside, with Gaelic medium classes; the council's catchment for it runs from Arnol and Bragar down to Carloway and Doune Carloway. Secondary pupils go to the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway. The W2 Westside circular stops at Shawbost School in both directions, and the W2A Carloway local and the evening service call there too.
