About South Lochs
South Lochs is the name adverts use for the townships on the south side of Loch Erisort, the district the Gazetteer for Scotland also calls Park. It is not one village, and adverts under the name come from several townships, Cromore, Gravir, Lemreway and Caversta among them.
The Pairc Estate passed from a private landlord to the community's Pairc Trust in December 2015. The trust lists its 11 townships as Shieldenish, Habost, Kershader, Garyvard, Caversta, Cromore, Marvig, Calbost, Gravir, Lemreway and Orinsay, with 213 crofts and around 400 people on about 10,840 hectares. The Crofting Commission files ten of them, all but Shieldenish, under the parish of Lochs.
The W9 bus runs from Stornoway round Habost, Kershader, Garyvard, Cromore, Marvig, Calbost, Gravir and Lemreway to Orinsay, and Pairc School at Gravir takes primary pupils from those same townships; Historic Environment Scotland lists the former school and schoolhouse there at category B. Secondary pupils go to the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway.
